Perform the ISTA 6-AMAZON.COM tests thanks to Amazon Lab and get certified to meet the new requirements imposed by the platform. Our Amazon Lab was therefore born to provide an effective and simple solution to distribution companies so that they can overcome the ISTA 6-AMAZON testing protocols and continue selling through their distribution channel.

We let you know what the Amazon Lab is and how it can help you distribute on Amazon safely, in addition to optimizing your packaging.

What is ISTA 6-AMAZON and the FrustFrustration-Freeaging program

In 2019, Amazon takes a step forward to standardize the packaging used by the companies that distribute on its platform.
It develops the Frustration-Free Packaging program, to improve the customer experience regarding packaging and guarantee their satisfaction.

To do this, it establishes four requirements that must be met by the packaging of those who wish to distribute on Amazon:

  • Optimize the packaging material to reduce it to a minimum.
  • Ensure that the packaging fulfills its protective function and that the product arrives safe and sound to the final consumer.
  • Promote the use of recycled materials for packaging.
  • Make it easy to open the package

ISTA 6-AMAZON becomes a complete testing method for packaging, which guarantees that companies that distribute through Amazon meet these requirements.

In other words, passing the ISTA 6 packaging testing methods means that the load will be ready for shipment when it arrives at the Amazon plant, and will not be necessary to modify its packaging, which is an additional expense for distribution companies.

Amazon Lab: the solution to test packaging according to the Frustration-Free program

ISTA 6-Amazon presents a series of simulations that test packaging and how it reacts to threats in the distribution cycle. In this way, it is possible to predict the response of the packaging to these contingencies, optimize it and guarantee that it will fulfill its function: to protect the load inside.

In response to this new standard, at Safe Load Testing Technologies we have developed our Amazon Lab, a complete solution to carry out ISTA 6-Amazon testing methods.

Our Amazon device lab has the following equipment, all of them capable of meeting the testing requirements included in ISTA 6-Amazon:

Drop tester

Free drops and rotational impacts are one of the most common threats to packaging integrity during the distribution cycle. The Drop Tester or fall machine that is part of the Amazon Lab can simulate these impacts, including falls on the edge and the vertex, thanks to the incorporation of an arm mechanism.

In addition, the Safe Load Testing Technologies’ equipment has been designed for intuitive use, so that the test is as simple as placing the load on the lifting surface, selecting the height on the screen to release the load, and pressing the button to start the test.

According to our policy, and to allow the customization of different equipment, we have designed systems adapted to transportation and their volume.

The compression tester

Our Compression Tester allows the packaging to be tested against compression forces and the creep test to be carried out.
It is an essential part of the Amazon Lab and the ISTA 6-Amazon test as it allows us to verify that the chosen packaging will comply with the Frustration-Free Packaging program and will resist the compression derived from stacking.

Vertical vibration system

The vertical vibration system simulates the vertical vibrations. That is produced by various types of transport, such as transport by train, air, or sea, among others.

As an additional value, it is possible to incorporate our patented Pitch&Roll system into the equipment. It is a technology capable of simulating pitch and roll movements occurring during transport and cargo handling. In this way, the equipment generates more accurate results.

Inclined impact machine

The inclined impact equipment, also part of our Amazon Lab, allows you to simulate horizontal impacts affecting load stability during the distribution cycle.

With an intuitive use that allows loads of up to 2000 kilos, it makes it possible to comply with the ISTA 6 packaging requirements by testing the protective capacity of the product+packaging system against inclined impacts

Clamp Machine

The Clamp tester is a specific tool to predict the resistance of the packaging to horizontal pressures and vertical movements typical of automatic storage.

Therefore, the Amazon Lab is currently the completest solution on the market to carry out the ISTA 6-Amazon testing methods established by the e-commerce giant. The solutions that make up this laboratory can be distributed together or separately so that each company completes its laboratory according to its needs.
